Reasonably Green

buy local, here's how. Support your own health as well as local farmers by taking the time to search out nearby farms and buy your produce there; you’ll be surprised how fun it is to drive out to a small farm and pick out truly fresh food. If you don’t have time to drive to a farm, join a co-op and get seasonal fresh produce via subscription. Check here for all of your local farmer information.

Read labels and question.
Think twice before introducing your body to an ingredient you can’t pronounce. Keep in mind that many products these days contain genetically modified ingredients that our stomachs weren’t invented to handle. Organic food, though a little more expensive, can’t be bad for you.

What’s in your water?
By now, a lot of us have heard the news that our tap water is contaminated by pharmaceuticals. At the same time, some bottled water companies are advertising “added fluoride,” who’s right? Be in charge of your own health. Take a minute to do some research and decide for yourself.

CLEAN GREEN. Most of your cleaning products are a shiny cocktail of hazardous substances that irritate our skin, lungs and eyes. These things can be a “no no” for those of us with children and/or pets. Save a bunch of money and possibly your health by trying out these safe cleaners.

Glass cleaner. For an effective glass cleaner, use a mixture of half white vinegar and half water.

Mildew and mold. Try a mixture of lemon juice or white vinegar and salt.

Drain cleaner. Pour a quarter cup of baking soda down a clogged drain and follow that up with a half cup of vinegar. Close the drain tightly until fizzing stops and then flush with boiling water.
